Plans and billing

Included spend and overage
Every plan includes a monthly amount of tracked AI spend: the provider-reported cost TokenFront syncs from your connected platforms in a calendar month (what you see on your dashboard). Costs you enter by hand don't count.
On a paid plan, spend above the included amount is billed as overage, at your plan's rate per extra $1,000 (see the table above), charged pro rata: $500 over on Pro is $1.50. On Scale, overage never passes $2,100 a month, so a monthly Scale bill tops out at $2,499. Free is never charged; see Going over on Free for what happens instead.
How a month is billed:
- On the lower of two months. Each month is billed on the lower of its spend and the month before's, so one runaway month never raises your TokenFront bill.
- Only full months on a paid plan. The month you upgrade in, and the 14-day trial, are never charged overage.
- Changing plans mid-month never costs more. A month you switched plans in is billed at whichever of the plans you held gives the lower overage.
- After the month closes. Overage is worked out on the 3rd, once providers have finished reporting. The Owner gets an email with the amount and how it was worked out, and it's charged 3 days later to the card on file as its own invoice (not added to your subscription's). Under $1 isn't charged.
- Think it's wrong? Email support@tokenfront.io before the charge date and we'll hold it while we check.
- On a paid plan, going over never blocks, pauses or hides anything.
Along the way, Account → Plan & Billing shows your spend so far this month against what's included, where the month is heading at its current pace, and last month's overage and its status. The Owner also gets an email when this month's spend passes 80% and 100% of the included amount.
When to move up. A bigger plan costs less once your monthly spend passes about $46,700 on Pro or about $241,700 on Business. The Billing page tells you when a bigger plan would have cost less last month; you can switch from Manage billing at any time. The full rate table and worked examples are on the pricing page.
"History kept" is how long TokenFront keeps your cost data; how far back a first sync can reach depends on each provider (see How long is my data kept?).
Your 14-day Pro trial
Every new account starts with 14 days of Pro, free. There's no card to enter and nothing is charged when it ends. During the trial you get everything in Pro: 10 connections, 6 months of history, breakdowns, CSV export, every anomaly check and savings insights. Anomaly alerts start switched on so you'll hear about a spike without waiting for the daily digest; you can change that in Notifications.
We email you 3 days before the trial ends. If you haven't chosen a plan by then, the account simply moves to Free:
- connections past Free's 2 are paused, not deleted (the oldest two keep syncing), and you choose which to resume
- history older than 30 days stops showing, and is permanently removed 30 days later unless you upgrade before then
- breakdowns, CSV export, insights and every check except spend spikes switch off
- anyone you invited during the trial keeps their login but loses access, since Free has one seat (yours). Upgrading gives them access again automatically
Each organization gets one trial, and so does each email address: deleting an account and signing up again with the same address doesn't start another.
Going over on Free
Free covers up to $2,500 a month of tracked AI spend and is never charged. If a calendar month goes over, the account Owner gets an email and the app shows a banner; the next month is a grace month. If it goes over too, syncing pauses when it ends: TokenFront stops pulling in new data until you move to a paid plan. Everything already collected stays visible, and upgrading resumes syncing and fills in the gap. Months from December 2026 on count.
If a payment fails
When a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries it and your plan keeps working for 14 days. The Billing page and a banner show the date. If it's still unpaid after that, the account has Free's limits (connections past Free's two are paused, and invited members lose access) until the payment goes through, and then your plan comes back. Paused connections can be resumed from Platforms.
Upgrading
Only the account's Owner can change the plan (see Team members). Go to Account → Plan & Billing, choose Monthly or Annual, pick a plan, and select Upgrade to that plan. Payment happens on Stripe's secure checkout page; TokenFront never sees your card details.
Your new plan applies as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, usually within a few seconds. The Billing page shows it once it lands. A wider history window starts filling in on the next sync, since TokenFront then fetches the older history your new plan covers.
Monthly or annual
Annual billing costs 10 times the monthly price, so you get 2 months free. You're charged once a year, and Stripe emails you before each renewal. You can switch between monthly and annual from Manage billing at any time.
Switching plans or canceling
Everything after your first upgrade happens in Account → Plan & Billing → Manage billing, which opens Stripe's billing portal in a new tab. From there you can:
- move between Pro, Business and Scale
- see and pay overage invoices
- switch between monthly and annual billing
- update your payment method and download invoices
- cancel
Canceling takes effect at the end of the period you've already paid for; you're then on Free.
Whenever your plan or billing period changes, the account Owner gets an email listing exactly what changed: included spend and overage rate, connection, history and seat limits, features now included or no longer included, and anything paused as a result.
What happens when you move to a smaller plan
- Connections: if you have more than the new plan allows, the newest ones are paused, not deleted. Their credentials and history stay put, and you choose which to resume from the Platforms page. The account Owner gets an email listing what was paused.
- Team members: if the new plan has fewer seats than you have members, the most recently added members lose access. They keep their logins and nothing they set up changes; they see a page saying the plan has no seat for them. Upgrading again gives them access automatically, or the Owner can remove them from Team members. The Owner is never affected.
- Saved views: views past the new plan's limit stay, but you can't save new ones until you're under it.
- History: anything older than the new plan's window stops showing straight away and is permanently deleted after 30 days. Upgrade again within those 30 days and it comes back. See How long is my data kept?.
- Features: these switch off immediately, and come back as they were if you move up again.
- Below Scale: API tokens stop working. They're kept, and the Owner can still revoke them.
- Below Business: team budgets are kept but they, their Reports column and their alerts switch off (the whole-account budget carries on); billing checks stop; the audit log can't be viewed (events are still recorded); and required two-factor sign-in can't be newly turned on — if it's already on, it stays on until the Owner turns it off.
- On Free: breakdowns, CSV export, savings insights, the whole-account budget's alerts and every anomaly check except spend spikes and model retirements switch off too.
Payment problems
If a payment fails, Stripe retries it automatically and a notice appears at the top of every page, for everyone in the organization, with a link for the Owner to update the card. If it still hasn't gone through after the retries, the account moves to Free, with the same pausing and history rules as above.
